For a lack of a better solution, I got this 7 working for me: Assume I have 1 activity 6 (MyActivity) and few fragments that replaces 5 each other (only one is visible at a time).

In 4 MyActivity, add this listener:

getSupportFragmentManager().addOnBackStackChangedListener(getListener());

(As you can 3 see I'm using the compatibility package).

getListener implementation:

            public void onBackStackChanged()

                FragmentManager manager = getSupportFragmentManager();

                    currFrag.onFragmentResume();

        return result;
    }

MyFragment.onFragmentResume() will 2 be called after a "Back" is pressed. few 1 caveats though:

  1. It assumes you added all transactions to the backstack (using FragmentTransaction.addToBackStack())
  2. It will be activated upon each stack change (you can store other stuff in the back stack such as animation) so you might get multiple calls for the same instance of fragment.

I've changed the suggested solution a little 1 bit. Works better for me like that:

After a popStackBack() you can use the following callback 1 : onHiddenChanged(boolean hidden) within your fragment

The following section at Android Developers 13 describes a communication mechanism Creating event callbacks to the activity. To 12 quote a line from it:

A good way to do that 11 is to define a callback interface inside 10 the fragment and require that the host activity 9 implement it. When the activity receives 8 a callback through the interface, it can 7 share the information with other fragments 6 in the layout as necessary.

Edit: The fragment 5 has an onStart(...) which is invoked when the fragment 4 is visible to the user. Similarly an onResume(...) when 3 visible and actively running. These are 2 tied to their activity counterparts. In 1 short: use onResume()

If a fragment is put on backstack, Android 4 simply destroys its view. The fragment instance 3 itself is not killed. A simple way to start 2 should to to listen to the onViewCreated 1 event, an put you "onResume()" logic there.

A little improved and wrapped into a manager 10 solution.

Things to keep in mind. FragmentManager 9 is not a singleton, it manages only Fragments 8 within Activity, so in every activity it 7 will be new. Also, this solution so far 6 doesn't take ViewPager into account that 5 calls setUserVisibleHint() method helping 4 to control visiblity of Fragments.

Feel free 3 to use following classes when dealing with 2 this issue (uses Dagger2 injection). Call 1 in Activity:

This is the correct answer you can call 3 onResume() providing the fragment is attached 2 to the activity. Alternatively you can use 1 onAttach and onDetach

My workaround is to get the current title 4 of the actionbar in the Fragment before 3 setting it to the new title. This way, once 2 the Fragment is popped, I can change back 1 to that title.

I have used enum FragmentTags to define all my fragment 2 classes.

TAG_FOR_FRAGMENT_A(A.class),
TAG_FOR_FRAGMENT_B(B.class),
TAG_FOR_FRAGMENT_C(C.class)

pass FragmentTags.TAG_FOR_FRAGMENT_A.name() as fragment tag.

and now on 1
